Adrian Williams and Sarah Gunn returned elated from their highly successful trip to the European Triathlon

Championships in Austria. Both exceeded their expectations with Adrian finishing 11th and 6th British competitor

out of 45 finishers with Sarah 2nd Briton and 6th overall out of 19 in their age group races. Adrian had his best

swim ever knocking two minutes off his previous best. The 42 km bike ride was particularly tough with many hills

and sharp downhill turns, made more so by Adrian's chain coming off on one of the climbs. By the time he

switched to the 10km run the temperature had climbed to 30 degrees but he came home delighted to be ahead

of his target to be in the top ten British finishers and only seven minutes behind the winner.

Nearer to home Terry Ranger was the club's only triathlon competitor in the Bowood Sprint Triathlon

finishing in 1hr29m48s for a creditable 74th place out of 227 finishers in the 750m swim, 21km bike and 5km run

event.

It was a quiet weekend for Cirencester runners with three 5km races having club representatives. Martin Evans

and Chris Riches went to Bristol for the final round of the Pomphrey Sports series and were happy to finish close

together in 108th and 114th place respectively out of 172 finishers.

In the second round of the 'Back In A Flash' 5km series in Swindon's Coate Water Park the three Cirencester

runners all improved on their first round times. Simon Campbell was again first home for the club in fourth place

in 17m21s, followed by Adam Powell, 15th in 20m06s and Barbara Thomas 91st in 26m38s out of the 144

finishers.

The club's only race victory last weekend fell to Wendy Nicholls who was first lady in the Swindon Park Run,

finishing an excellent fourth overall in 18m32s, followed by park run regulars David Moss in 116th place and

Barbara Thomas, nine places behind, out of 366 finishers.
